Each WI is a charity. To join as a member, you need to pay an annual subscription and in return, there will be 11 meetings a year. The meetings are a chance to get to know the other members, hear from interesting speakers on a wide range of topics and even learn new skills. They are also a great opportunity to simply get out of the house, relax and have fun!
The meetings for South Tonbridge WI are held on the second Tuesday of each month (apart from August, when we take a break for summer). The venue is the Riverside Room in the Angel Centre. Each meeting starts promptly at 19:30 and closes by 21:30, with an opportunity for a glass of procescco or cup of tea afterwards.
We have some exciting speakers planned for meetings in 2018. We are also planning group outings to try new or different things, like gin tasting and theatre trips. And there is an opportunity to create special interest groups (sub groups) within the membership, such as a book club, handicraft group, walking group or park run team, for example.
But really, this group is shaped by what our members want it to be - the Committee are very grateful for all the suggestions we receive, and we will do our best to make sure we incorporate as many of your ideas as possible.
Unfortunately our membership is currently full. If you are interested in joining, we open up for new members in the first week of January.
While annual subscriptions cover some of the ideas we have planned, the cost of running a WI group is more than this. Therefore fundraising is an important part of our activities too – ranging from a raffle at each meeting to an annual quiz night for friends and family. Ideally we will raise more than we need, and so may be able to make charitable contributions to causes nominated by our members.
